Since 2000, the population of people between 25 and 34 in the third district has dropped over 25 percent. Crushing student debt, few good paying jobs, and little affordable housing is forcing the younger generations to leave in droves. Young people simply cannot take on a mortgage when their student loans are as high as potential mortgage payments. We need to pass legislation to allow individuals to refinance their student debt just like any other debt. The student debt crisis will become the next mortgage crisis if we fail to act, with estimates of student debt at over $1.35 trillion dollars.
