While the goal should be providing healthcare for everyone, we must not lose sight of the fact that low quality health care is almost the same as no health care. Insurance companies incentivize doctors to provide the lowest cost service and not the highest quality care. Furthermore, the money that is saved on health care goes to the insurance company, and the savings are not passed to the patient. One of the solutions to this is to put a priority on healthcare transparency. I will support legislation that will require insurance providers and hospitals to provide statistics on the quality of care that they provide. Insurance companies and hospitals will have to provide survival and success statistics. This will free patients to make an educated choice about their health and will eliminate underperforming insurance companies and hospitals.
